Rubber Cultivation

Sri Lanka is a country where rubber cultivation is an important commercial agricultural activity.

Rubber is mainly grown in the wet zone of the country.

The Sabaragamu and Southern provinces are especially well known for rubber cultivation.

Rubber trees grow well in hot and wet climatic conditions.

They require a high amount of annual rainfall.

Latex obtained from rubber trees is used to produce rubber.

This industry contributes to the export income of Sri Lanka.

It also provides employment opportunities for many peoples.

However, Sri Lanka is not the largest producer of rubber in the world.

Thailand is the leading rubber producer in the world.

Indonesia also produces rubber on a large scale.

Vietnam is another major producer of rubber.

These countries use large areas of land for rubber cultivation.

Therefore, their production levels are very high.

Sri Lanka has limited land area for rubber cultivation.

As a result, its production is comparatively lower.

However, Sri Lanka is known for producing highquality rubber.

Thus, Sri Lanka is a rubber growing country but not the largest producer in the world.
